The Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP) has opened a bold new chapter in the nation’s development discourse with the official launch of the Planning Ghana Magazine and the GIP Policy Brief Series. The ceremony, held during the 54th Annual General Conference and Meeting in Tamale, marked a significant milestone in the Institute’s commitment to strengthening professional visibility, policy advocacy, and knowledge dissemination.
The launch was led by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim; the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Nii Moi Thompson; and the Director-General of NDPC, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, together with the President of GIP, Pln. Percy Anaab Bukari (FGIP), and the Editor-in-Chief of the publications, Prof. Owusu Amponsah, who jointly unveiled the inaugural editions.
In his remarks, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim underscored the importance of the publications as strategic tools that will strengthen evidence-based planning and improve coordination across Ghana’s development landscape. He noted that the Planning Ghana Magazine and the Policy Brief Series arrive at a time when the country requires high-quality data, professional insight, and practical policy guidance to address rapid urbanization, local economic transformation challenges, and the demand for more responsive planning systems. The Minister commended GIP for its leadership and affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to leverage these outputs to enrich national policy formulation, build capacity, and strengthen decentralised planning.
The Planning Ghana Magazine serves as the Institute’s flagship publication—a curated platform documenting the experiences, innovations, and reflections of planners across the country. Featuring contributions from academics, practitioners, emerging professionals, and thought leaders, the magazine addresses critical themes including sustainable development, urban management, governance, climate adaptation, and community planning.
The Policy Brief Series complements the magazine by providing concise, evidence-based analyses and actionable recommendations to support decision-making at national, regional, and district levels. These briefs translate complex planning issues into practical guidance for government institutions, development partners, and stakeholders.
GIP President, Pln. Percy Anaab Bukari, expressed deep appreciation to the Editorial Team and reviewers, led by Prof. Owusu Amponsah, for their dedication and professionalism in producing the inaugural editions. He described the launch as a defining moment for the planning profession and a significant step toward enhancing the Institute’s influence in national development dialogue.
Both publications will be released periodically and made available to members, institutions, and partners committed to advancing Ghana’s development through effective planning.
